BM-Flow and Microsoft DCOM hardening
"The Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) Remote Protocol is a protocol for exposing application objects using remote procedure calls (RPCs). DCOM is used for communication between the software components of networked devices."
Patches are available, but the effect of this change can be quite significant depending on how many devices in your IT environment rely on DCOM and don't support the new DCOM hardening. This means that potentially any device, service, or application you have running that relies on DCOM to communicate could stop working on March 14, 2023.
biomedion has taken action to investigate all the applications and versions coded in the past years to identify if any of the program’s code is using DCOM protocol. The applications where this was the case were thoroughly tested and found working properly when DCOM hardening was enabled, as foreseen by Microsoft for the period after March 2023. All the application’s code of biomedion applications that is using DCOM protocol is using the required authentication level 5 or higher.
